Have you ever worked really hard at something, achieved something so amazing, you feel so proud of yourself, and then someone looks at you and says, Oh wow, you're lucky. Guess what? It's not a compliment. Most of the time, when people tell you you're lucky, what they are trying to say is that they don't believe it happened to you intentionally. Because they cannot believe that. You know, if somebody accepts the fact that you earned what you have, if someone accepts the fact that you worked hard, you were diligent, you were disciplined, you had, you know, drive throughout the entire process, then it means they're accepting the fact that it hasn't happened for them because they haven't put in the work. So mostly when somebody says, Wow, you're lucky, what they are trying to say is it was random. Life just chose you. There is nothing in particular that you did to succeed. And most people like to think that about successful people, from rich people to happy marriages to people with great friendships, anything that somebody deems as better than their life, they attribute it to luck. So I'm here to tell you something today. I am lucky because luck is not what you think it is. And now let me break down luck to you. So if luck is money, then luck is not winning the lottery. Rather, luck is an investment. Being lucky is as a result of the tiny, tiny things that you have done over a long period that made things just right for you to enjoy the opportunities that you got. So I have my acronym that I have chosen to mean lucky, why I say I am lucky. And today I'm going to share that with you. Let's start with L. The L in my lucky means learn consistently. What you have to understand is that you cannot even recognize good opportunities. You can't even recognize things that can benefit you in life if you don't know anything. So for anybody who is out there learning all the time, looking for more information, trying to grow their mindset, trying to get more knowledge and learning consistently, this person is putting them, putting themselves in a position to identify great opportunities for themselves, putting themselves in a position to dig themselves out of bad situations because they have knowledge of how to do so. So lucky people learn consistently. The you, when I say I'm lucky, is understanding the game. Whatever you're doing, whatever industry you are in, whatever field you are in, every game has its rules. And the person who wants to get ahead not only has just the knowledge, but make sure they understand the game, understand your community, understand your industry, understand the sort of things that have worked and what doesn't work. The more you are able to do this, the more you prevent bad situations from happening to you. I always say, experience teaches the fool, but the wise learns from the mistake of the fool. So why not understand from those who came before you? Why not research? Why not practice? Why not try to make sure that whatever industry or field you are in, you know you are an expert, which means you are most likely to come out on top. You're lucky. The C, when I say lucky, is consistency over intensity. Now, a lot of people like to follow motivation, hype, fig vim, and gather a lot of strength for one big strike. But the truth is, intensity doesn't get you to the finish line. Consistency does. The person who shows up every day, regardless of if it's raining, if they are tired, if they're weak, if they are broke, if it looks like there are no results, whatever is going on in their lives, they keep showing up every day. That is the person who crosses the finish line. The game is for the person who has not only momentum but has the stamina to keep going when everyone else is tired. So consistency wins over intensity. The K when I say I'm lucky is keep showing up. I know this almost sounds like consistency, but it's slightly different. You know, a lot of us give up too easily. A lot of us start doing something and we feel like, okay, this isn't for me. Let me move my efforts to something else. A lot of us face rejection or failure once and think, no, I think it's not my destiny. I don't think I can do this. Let me save my efforts for something else. But the truth of the matter is, the person who keeps showing up no matter what, the person who keeps showing up in the face of all failures is the person who gets to the finish line. That person who doesn't take no for an answer. That person who's ready to hear no 999 times in the hopes that that thousandth time they will hear a yes is the person who luck shines on. Because you don't know when the opportunity is going to come, you don't know when that right moment is. Unfortunately, the only thing we can control in this world is ourselves. We cannot control the opportunities, we can't control our surroundings, we can't control the people in our lives. So if you keep showing up, the likelihood of the right opportunity finding you is higher than the person who gives up. The why, when I say I am lucky, is saying yes to the right opportunities. Now it's very easy to learn, it's easy to keep showing up, always be there. But when you don't know how to say yes to the right opportunities, then it is all not worth it. When that right opportunity is knocking on your door, and you now say, okay, give me time to think about it, and the position is filled with somebody else, when you have the opportunity to invest in a company as it's taken off, and you say, Hmm, I'm not so sure about this company and this and that and that, and then next thing you see, the stocks have risen and it's too late for you to get in there. Saying yes to the right opportunities is very, very key. If I should say, is the most important thing to be in lucky, which is why sometimes you have some people who may not even know as much, may not even have done as much work, but because of their positive attitude and knowing when to say yes, great things just happen for them. When somebody says, Oh, let's go grab lunch, and then they say yes, then while they're having lunch, they meet somebody who says, Oh, let's start this business idea, then they say yes. Next thing you see, five years down the line, their business is doing well because they knew when to say yes. But with this one, there's a catch. Because knowing when to say yes also comes with knowing when to say no, and that is where the intelligence and the learning comes in because you can't say yes to everything, and you need to have the discernment to be able to tell the difference between an opportunity that's right for you versus a distraction. And every time you say yes to somebody, you are saying no to yourself. So you need to make sure that you can tell the difference between a good opportunity and a bad opportunity and then decide swiftly. Most people think that taking long in making a decision means you are being thoughtful. That's not true. That's the biggest lie anyone can tell you. You should be able to make a decision in a split second. Now, the only reason that you should delay in making a decision is if you need more information. And if you need more information, get that information now and make that decision now. Because guess what? The more you delay, the more the likelihood that it's going to fail. Make the decision, and if you make the decision and you even made a wrong decision, but your calculated guess was close, it still gives you the option of bouncing back from that. But sometimes being indecisive, neither saying yes or saying no, is the fastest way to lose opportunities. People will respect someone who is decisive. If I ask you to go play tennis with me and you say yes, I will respect you because you like tennis. If I ask you to go play tennis with me and you say no, it's not my thing, I will respect you because you know what is yours and what isn't, you are decisive. If I ask you to go play tennis with me and you say, um, let me think about it. I'll get back to you. You've lost my respect. Because what that means is you need to be persuaded. You are not decisive. It is either for you or it isn't. If you ask me, Richie, do you want chicken? Yes. Do you want fish? No. I am decisive. That is who I am. So life is for the people who are bold, who make bold decisions, and this is why you need to grow your knowledge so that you can tell the difference between a good opportunity and a bad opportunity. So, like I said, I am lucky because guess what? I learn consistently, I understand the game, I choose consistency over intensity, I keep showing up, and I know when to say yes to the right opportunities. So, if you want to be a mastermind, learn to be lucky.
